Llanberis, North Wales – Keeping the mountains clean

The UIAA (International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation) Respect the Mountains Series, supported by KEEN, encompasses some of Europe’s most loved outdoor regions. Over the three month summer series, hundreds of outdoor and nature lovers around Europe will come together to promote sustainable environmental practices and celebrate the beauty of mountain regions by taking part in dedicated waste clean-up operations. Want to help keep North Wales clean? Come and join the planned clean-up event in North Wales on Sunday 26 June, we need your help.

Nine events are scheduled to take place in eight European countries, and we’ve got one at home too, in North Wales on 26 June 2016, organised by North Wales based mountain activities provider, RAW Adventures in partnership with the UIAA and the BMC.

Whether you’re a climber, hill walker, mountaineer, dog walker, cyclist, canoeist, runner or just love the beauty of Snowdonia, now’s your chance to give something back. Throughout the summer and in popular locations, there is often evidence left behind in the form of picnic debris, litter and dog mess. To keep this beautiful mountain area clean, we all have to take some responsibility and we can all do something to help.

Clean up – Llanberis

The programme in Llanberis will start atreplique montre iwc 10:00am with participants provided with a full briefing before being distributed into groups with the cleaning equipment. The teams will also focus their attention on some obvious (and not so obvious) sites where litter can be collected – roadsides, parking areas, hillsides and wind traps.

After a few hours of rewarding work, participants will then have the possibility to socialize around a lunchtime BBQ provided to all volunteers at Llyn Padarn. In the afternoon the focus switches to enjoying one of the many types of activity the area has to offer. This includes climbing and abseiling, open canoe or Stand Up paddle boarding, a guided trail run (maximum five miles), nature walks and other activity sessions – all facilitated by locally based providers.

Throughout the day, participants will need a keen eye as the volunteer discovering the most original piece of garbage will be awarded a prize from the KEEN product range. The event finishes at 16:00.

The Access and Conservation Trust

The BMC’s charity – the BMC Access & Conservation Trust – promotes sustainable access to cliffs, mountains and open countryside by facilitating education and conservation projects across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

By educating climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers to enjoy outdoor recreation while minimising their impact on the landscape, conserving the UK’s upland resources, and campaigning for improved access rights, ACT enables future generations to continue to enjoy outdoor activities and the physical, mental and social benefits they bring to individual lives and society in general.
